30 - indicates Mahogany back and sides with simple black/white/black trim and tortoise binding. Smaller, darker rosette, a thin dark wood strip down the center of the back, and forward shifted, scalloped braces.
40 - indicates Rosewood back and sides with herringbone and ivoroid binding, with a slightly bigger, lighter colored rosette, and a zigzag strip down the center of the back with forward shifted, tapered braces.
